MESSAGE TO PARENTS
Dear Families of 6th Grade Students,
Happy New Year and welcome back to the second semester of 6th grade at Small. As we move forward into this packed time of year we will explore new and challenging topics that will hopefully expand your child’s understanding not only of the world but of themselves. Our destination during this 4th grading period is to Europe where we will focus on economics as well as to our own families where students will reflect on 12 significant characteristics of culture. Students will very much need support from their families in the form of conversations and questions to do this. While our culture project will require students to share some information they have learned about their family’s culture, in no way would we ever expect a child to share more information than what the family is comfortable sharing. So, please guide your children as they come home with questions to make decisions about what and how to share their culture with the class. The most important part of this process will be for students to engage in robust conversations with their own family about heritage and culture. It is important to add that students will need to purchase a standard size poster board for the culture project this grading period. Please keep an eye out for the project packet for more information.
As always, please remember that all assignments and projects are meant to be completed IN CLASS, before school in 6th grade Morning Club, or after school in tutorials. Morning Club is offered every morning without exception from 7 am. – 8 a.m. for all 6th grade students. See the link above in the Menu Bar for more information.
